Kilimall is an African e-commerce company currently operating in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria. The company was founded in Kenya in 2014 by Yang Tao as a direct competitor to Jumia and Konga.com. Kilimall operates three e-commerce operations, namely online shopping, where local companies sell their products on the platform, and global shipping, where Kilimall sources products that are not available locally and delivers them to its customers.

History

Kilimall was formed in Kenya in September 2014 by a Chinese entrepreneur, Yang Tao, in the wake of Kenya's growing e-commerce space. Yang Tao was an executive at Huawei before leaving to pursue the Kilimall vision. It derives its name from Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, as an inspiration to its goal to become a dominant player in the African e-Commerce scene.

Kilimall currently has a network of 500 merchants who sell their products via the platform. Some of them have physical outlets, and others are small traders operating from their homes. Kilimall offers its merchants free warehousing in Nairobi (an arrangement known as FBK), from where sold goods are transported by the firm's fleet of motorcycles and vehicles to customers. Kilimall also has Global Shopping and Drop Shipping for independent oversea merchants and local merchants respectively.
